The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method was developed in the 1990s to enhance innovation and business performance. Following the guidance of a trained facilitator, participants individually build 3D models using LEGO® bricks. These models and metaphors create a basis for discussion. During the building process, participants reflect on the topic and then share their models with the others. Most story tellers and listeners reach a state where they are fully focused and curious to hear the meaning of each other's models. The playful setting contributes to increased engagement, and the creation of a safe environment, where participants open up, share their experiences and ideas. The method offers a different way to tackle complex challenges in organisations, to bring people closer together, and thus unlock their potential in collaborative efforts.

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method cannot only help businesses and larger organisations, but also researchers and research groups. Most academics have a deep knowledge in their research domain, but less focus, interest and thus training in how to lead people. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method offers a different way to discuss shared values, common goals and a vision of a group, or even of collaborators before embarking on a joint project.
