Hi, I'm Adam, a certified facilitator in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method.

I'm a research team leader and associate professor in the field of artificial intelligence and clinical prediction. I lead a team embedded in the Danish healthcare system aiming to develop and apply cutting-edge machine learning methods for a clinical purpose. This is a highly interdisciplinary effort, where team work, vision and innovation should not just be empty words. When I embarked on this journey, I looked for opportunities to develop my leadership skills. This is how I found the  LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® materials and method. I completed the Enhanced Certification in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology in 2023.

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

Let the LEGO® bricks and your hands do the thinking, open up your imagination and get you into flow.

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method was developed in the 1990s to enhance innovation and business performance. Following the guidance of a trained facilitator, participants individually build 3D models using LEGO® bricks. These models and metaphors create a basis for discussion. During the building process, participants reflect on the topic and then share their models with the others. Most story tellers and listeners reach a state where they are fully focused and curious to hear the meaning of each other's models. The playful setting contributes to increased engagement, and the creation of a safe environment, where participants open up, share their experiences and ideas. The method offers a different way to tackle complex challenges in organisations, to bring people closer together, and thus unlock their potential in collaborative efforts

Research perspective

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method cannot only help businesses and larger organisations, but also researchers and research groups. Most academics have a deep knowledge in their research domain, but less focus, interest and thus training in how to lead people. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method offers a different way to discuss shared values, common goals and a vision of a group, or even of collaborators before embarking on a joint project. Moreover, getting to know each other in a safe environment is crucial to align expectations and to work as a team. Both of these aspects contribute to transforming groups of people working on the same topic at the same place to high-performing teams.

What do I offer?

All workshops are preceded by a meeting to discuss the context and the purpose of the event. This allows me to design a workshop tailored to the sponsor's needs. Common purposes are

but the method is suitable to discuss any complex topic, where there is no right answer, and everyone's input is relevant.

During the workshop, I facilitate the process by using the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® materials and method. Participants use official kits including thousands of LEGO® bricks developed for the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method. After the workshop, I share my insights with the sponsor at a follow-up meeting illustrated by photos taken of models built by participants.

I can assist with arranging the entire event (incl. catering and accommodation) at Danhostel Rønde. The venue is only 25 mins from Aarhus and 10 mins from Aarhus Airport, surrounded by the beautiful Mols National Park.

Disclaimer I am in full-time employment at Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus & Aarhus University, which can affect my availability and flexibility around offering workshops via my private company. Workshops offered to private sponsors cannot have any conflict of interest with my main role and tasks as an academic researcher.
